{"id":2,"date":"2013-06-03T20:35:15","date_gmt":"2013-06-03T20:35:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mr.mcgaughey.ca\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2013-06-03T22:31:18","modified_gmt":"2013-06-03T22:31:18","slug":"sample-page","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mr.mcgaughey.ca\/?page_id=2","title":{"rendered":"Scratch Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"SCRATCH\" href=\"http:\/\/scratch.mit.edu\">Scratch<\/a> is a visual programming language developed by MIT to teach children basic computer science and programming principles by snapping together lego-like blocks of code.<\/p>\n<p>I have been teaching Scratch to children for about 3 years.<\/p>\n<p>In June 2013, I am participating in the 6 week\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/creative-computing.appspot.com\/\">Creative Computing<\/a>\u00a0online workshop on teaching with Scratch.<\/p>\n<p>This page is a place to grow my collection of scratch Resources.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In May 2012, I prepared a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/scdsbmindsonmedia2012.wikispaces.com\/Scratch\" target=\"_blank\">workshop on Scratch<\/a> for my colleagues at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/scdsbmindsonmedia2012.wikispaces.com\/\">SCDSB Minds On Media 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"toc0\">What is Scratch?<\/h1>\n<p>Scratch is a programming language developed at MIT that allows children to easily explore computer programming and learn through experimentation.<br \/>\nWith scratch, children can create video games, explore math concepts, create animations and digital stories, and many other media projects.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Scratch Intro Facilitorial\" width=\"530\" height=\"398\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jxDw-t3XWd0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Scratch is installed on scdsb computers at programs-&gt;Science and Technology &#8211;&gt; scratch, but if you need to download it to install at home or on a teacher notebook, you can find it at<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/scratch.mit.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">scratch.mit.edu<\/a>. Below is Chris Betcher&#8217;s presentation for the 2010 k12online conference entitled, Teaching Children to Think Using Scratch.
