Prior to coming to<br \/>\n      Parkview, I taught Special Education and grade 2 at Huronia Centennial<br \/>\n      School in Elmvale. I live with my wife, Nancy, and my daughter Sarah,<br \/>\n      age 5. I enjoy playing guitar and writing and singing folk music. I<br \/>\n      bring a lot of music into my classroom.\n    <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n        School begins at 8:45 and ends at 3:15.\n      <\/li>\n<li>\n        Recesses are at 10:05 and 1:50. Please send healthy snacks for your<br \/>\n        child at recess.\n      <\/li>\n<li>\n        Lunch is from 11:30 &#8211; 11:50 in the class followed by outdoor recess<br \/>\n        from 11:50 to 12:30.\n      <\/li>\n<li>\n        Dismissal is at 3:15.\n      <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n      Sending Money to School\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      If you are sending money to school with your child, please put it in an<br \/>\n      envelope and indicate;\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      a) Your child&#8217;s first and last name,\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      b) My name.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      c) The amount of money and the purpose for the money.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Agendas\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Agendas are an excellent way of teaching children organizational skills<br \/>\n      and keeping track of assignments.  At the end of each day, the children<br \/>\n      will have the opportunity to record assignments and information about<br \/>\n      upcoming events in their agendas.  Every morning I will ask the children<br \/>\n      if they have any notes in their agendas for me.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Rules for Grade 4<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      1)\tTreat others with kindness and respect.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      2)\tKeep hands, feet, objects and unwanted comments to yourself.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      3)\tListen carefully during lessons.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      4)\tRemember to do your job.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      5)\tTake care of your classroom and your school.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      6)\tNever give up.  Always do your Best!\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Consequences for Grade 4<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      1st Time: WARNING from teacher, name on board.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      2nd Time: Check mark beside name, Time Out  in classroom to complete a<br \/>\n      think sheet.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      3rd  Time: Think sheet with:  Phone Call Home\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Severe Clause:   Phone call home, or parental interview.  Office<br \/>\n      intervention\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Please go over these rules and consequences with your child.  Be aware<br \/>\n      that if you receive a time-out sheet to sign or a phone call, that your<br \/>\n      child has already had a warning and received 1 or 2 consequences.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Weekly Schedule<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Here are a few of the events that happen in our classroom over the<br \/>\n      course of a week.  Math, Language, and French occur every day.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Monday: Science\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Tuesday:  Phys-Ed, Social Studies\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Wednesday: Science\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Thursday: Phys-Ed, Library, Social Studies\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Friday: Art, Music\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Homework<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Homework will be listed in your child&#8217;s agenda. Your child may bring<br \/>\n      work home to complete if it was not finished in class.  This work needs<br \/>\n      to be completed for the next day. From time to time, I may send other<br \/>\n      assignments to be completed at home.  We will make sure the due dates<br \/>\n      are written in your child&#8217;s agenda.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Sharing and Newstelling<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      In grade 4, children are still eager to share special items and events<br \/>\n      with the whole class.  At this time, we are not doing formal sharing in<br \/>\n      our class.  In the future, your child may be assigned one or two days a<br \/>\n      month for formal sharing or news-telling as part of our Oral Language<br \/>\n      program.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Gym<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      Our class has gym twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.  Your<br \/>\n      child is expected to have running shoes in the gym, and gym clothes.<br \/>\n      You may leave a pair of indoor shoes at the school.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      <b>Units this Month:<\/b>\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Language:\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      This year we will be using the Write Traits program for writing.  This<br \/>\n      program identifies 6 Traits of Writing used by effective writers:<br \/>\n      Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and<br \/>\n      Conventions.  In the beginning, we will focus on developing strong ideas<br \/>\n      in writing.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Math:  Patterning:  Nelson Math 4 Chapter 1\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      For the first 3 weeks, your child will be exploring shape and number<br \/>\n      patterns.  The goal will be for your child to recognize, extend, create<br \/>\n      and describe shape patterns and number sequences.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Patterning Activities you can do at home:\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      1.\tYour child can use skip counting patterns on a calculator to find the<br \/>\n      age of each person in the family in months or weeks.  For example, using<br \/>\n      52 weeks = 1 year enter 52 +52 = = = = = = to find the number of weeks<br \/>\n      in 1 year.\n    <\/p>\n<p>\n      2.\tYour child can use a month-month calendar to record activities that<br \/>\n      occur on a regular basis, such as weekly, or daily sports, groups, music<br \/>\n      lessons, or favorite TV programs.  Have them describe any patterns they<br \/>\n      see.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Thursday September 29:  Math Test on patterning: chapter 1\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      Chapter 2- Numeration:  Students will compare, order and explore number<br \/>\n      patterns in numbers up to 10, 000.\n    <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n      At home, your child can:\n    <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n        practice reading and writing numbers found in magazines or newspapers<br \/>\n        that are between 1000 and 10, 000.\n      <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n        relate numbers of distances between places that she or he has been or<br \/>\n        has heard about.\n      <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n      Science:  We will beginning a unit on Rocks and Minerals shortly.  On<br \/>\n      October 12, we will be going on a field trip to Wye Marsh to study rocks<br \/>\n      and minerals.
